Get Ready for Your AC Replacement Appointment

person-making-a-to-do-list

Having your air conditioner replaced can be a bit of an undertaking. It’s not a process you go through very often, and it might seem like a logistical challenge. You’ve probably got some questions about what to expect. Well, it seems like a breeze to us, because we do it every day! So we’re happy to answer those questions.

People frequently wonder how long AC installation will take. They ask about the process, and exactly what’s involved. Homeowners want to know what they can do to help their AC replacement appointment go as smoothly as possible. We can explain it all!

The AC Replacement Process

The old units have to be taken out, and the new ones put in, right? Well, it actually starts before that. Our installation techs assess the situation: where they’ll need to be working, whether anything is in the way, and exactly what will have to be done to get the project started. They’ll also take the time to explain everything to you, and prepare the area to reduce the risk of mess or damage.

Then, yes, out with the old and in with the new. Once the new air conditioner is all hooked up and ready to go, it’s important to let it run for a little bit to make sure all is well. This is a great time to ask any questions you have, and your installers can help show you exactly how to work your new system. Then they’ll tidy up after themselves and say goodbye!

How Long AC Replacement Takes

If you’re replacing your old air conditioner with the same type of system, and no major modifications to your home will be necessary, it could be done in as little as four hours! But don’t bank on it. Make sure you have at least eight hours free, just in case. Major modifications would include things like installing new ductwork, and could necessitate a two-day installation process.

How to Prepare for AC Replacement

The best thing you can do is streamline the process of preparing the areas where the technicians will be walking and working. This way, they won’t have to take the time to do any of that themselves, and they’ll get to work much more quickly.

From the driveway to the outdoor unit, from the driveway to the door they should carry equipment through, and from that door to the indoor unit, make sure that there are wide, clear paths. Move large items aside and clear clutter from the floor and ground.

Around the indoor unit, make plenty of space so the technicians have elbow room for working. Around the outdoor unit, trim back plants and rake away leaves or grass. This is best for the air conditioner anyway, to maximize airflow and help the outdoor unit release the heat that is absorbed from indoors.

Finally, just before your installation appointment, remove your pets from the area where the technicians will be working. Open doors and hurrying feet can be hazardous to your furry friends, and having to explain the process to the cutest and most curious pets in the world might be a delight to the technicians, but it could slow them down.
