Is It Too Late for an AC Tune-Up?

smiling-HVAC-technician-performing-AC-maintenance

Air conditioners really do require regular maintenance. It makes a huge difference in how well they work. But you’ve probably heard that this routine, annual AC tune-up is generally done in the spring, before the air conditioner needs to be used for the summer. So, if that spring maintenance window has passed, is it too late for an AC tune-up? No! Schedule it now! Here’s why.

Every Year Matters

Having maintenance performed by a professional HVAC technician every single year is more important than having it done at any particular point in the year. Skipping a year will reduce your air conditioner’s efficiency by 5-10%. It will increase the likelihood that you’ll need significant AC repairs that summer. And it will even impact the length of your air conditioner’s overall lifespan!

Also, every year matters to your warranty agreement. If your air conditioner is still under warranty, the manufacturer can be held accountable for some things, like repairs or replacement parts that your air conditioner may need. But to comply with the agreement and keep your system under warranty, you can’t entirely skip a year of maintenance. Don’t void that warranty!

Winter and Disuse Have Consequences

Sitting all winter, unused, your air conditioner experiences some things that really don’t help it to work its best when summer comes again. One of the biggest issues is the amount of dust and grime that accumulates during the winter. Imagine if you hadn’t swept, vacuumed, or wiped down anything in your house that whole time! Ugh, what a mess. This dust limits airflow and can cause overheating. It must go!

Hard Work Has Consequences, Too

Time spent running last summer, and during the beginning of this summer, also impact how well your air conditioner can function. Wear and tear can lead to things like worn-down bearings in the motor. All that vibration can lead to loose screws and wobbling fan blades. And the all-important lubricant, which prevents severe friction issues, gets worn away.

What Happens During AC Maintenance

When your technician performs AC maintenance, the first step is to clean everything completely. This eliminates dust and grit that can cause wear, hinder airflow, add to friction, and blanket the components like insulation, leading to overheating. It will also deal with any mold, bacteria, algae, or other slimy unpleasantness that can grow in the condensate pan when it’s left unmaintained.

Now that the whole thing is clean, it’s easy for your technician to see and inspect every component and add lubricant to the moving parts. They’ll also test the electrical components to make sure connections are good, the motor is drawing the right amount of power, and the thermostat is accurately calibrated.

If you have any questions, your technician will be happy to answer them. And then your AC is good to go for another year! So don’t put it off any longer. Get an AC tune-up in Glenrosa, BC.
